Goal: design a bus shelter for Observatory Hill on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, overlooking Lake Mendota.
Campus buildings overlook the site from above and to the sides. My personal goal was to design a shelter that is beautiful, yet does not distract from the lake view for onlookers.
The large boulder sits over a drain. In the winter, meltwater runs off the roof and onto the boulder, where some of it refreezes. This creates a constantly changing ice sculpture, celebrating the beauty of winter.
